Lily's Baby Blessing

The weekend of March 16th our family drove up to Northern Virginia. We did a lot in the three days we were up there, but the best thing that happened was Lily's baby blessing.

For those who might not know, a baby blessing is much like a Christening. Basically, we give the baby a name and then the father gets to give them a blessing of health and happiness. 

Grandma Brewer flew in from Florida for the occasion. This was Lily's first time meeting her Great-grandma and it was love at first sight. :)

Although babies are usually blessed in front of the congregation at church, you can bless them at home which is what we opted to do. Since it was my Birthday and Laura's also in the coming week, we decided to do a triple celebration on Sunday and celebrate the blessing and the birthdays.

The boys were big helpers while we prepared the cookies and cakes for the celebration.

The morning of the 16th, we had breakfast and then attended Stake Conference at church. 

 Waffles!

Around 2 p.m. we all gathered at Mom's house for Lily's blessing.

 Lily was blessed in my blessing dress. The neatest thing about this dress is that it was hand-made by not only my mom, but Grandma Rachel Brewer, Grandma Gay Allred, and Great-Grandma Allred. I love it.

We tried to get some family pictures before the blessing. Unfortunately Lance and Jude were rough-housing and Lance smacked his mouth on Jude's head. Needless to say, Lance was not in a smiling mood which was made worse by us insisting that he smile for the pictures. This is the result:

Four generations:

I wanted to get a cute shot of the four kiddos, you know like the ones you see on Pinterest where everyone is smiling at the camera and it looks like such a sweet moment. Yeah...didn't work.

 This was the best one out of the bunch, even with the nose-picking, Jude's silly face and Lance zoning somewhere behind the camera.

 I liked this one, too.

 And this one would have been perfect if Lance hadn't decided he needed to stop smiling at that exact moment.

 I love that Lily looks horrified in most of these. Get used to it, Girlfriend. These boys are crazy!

After enduring hundreds of pictures, it was finally time for the blessing.

Bishop Lewis came to officiate. Tyler, George and Glenn stood in the circle while George gave Lily a sweet blessing.

Lily was talking non-stop to PopPop.

 See the tatting around the neck of the dress? My Great-grandma Allred crocheted that by hand! There is a piece of it on all of my siblings' blessing outfits as well.

It was such a fun day! We are so lucky to have such a wonderful family and that we're close enough to get together for special occasions. 

Thanks, Grandma, for coming all the way from Florida to be here with us. It means the world! I love you!
