Father's Day this year was spent in Charlottesville. I had to teach in Young Womens and George had to be at work on Monday, so there was no traveling for us that day. We actually just got back into town the night before from visiting our families up in Ashburn.
After our afternoon church meetings, we came home and George made dinner. I know, I know. I was supposed to do it, but let's be honest--George makes it better anyway and he loves to cook, so he took care of the food while I chased the kids around and washed dishes. We make a good team.
Sauteing some mushroom and onions to go with...
...these amazing steaks! They were seriously about an inch and a half thick.
Served with cauliflower mash, there is no denying this was a meal to remember. Oh my goodness, I can taste the charred marble-y goodness of the meat just looking at the picture.
After dinner, Lance came back from visiting his dad so we tried to take a father/sons picture.
Lance wanted a picture of him holding Cole. I love that Lance likes being a big brother.
Okay, first attempt:
Second attempt:
Fine. We broke down and went right to the silly pictures.
I have some crazy, crazy boys.
To top off the day, we had s'mores with the Elmers and Petersons over our coals still hot from cooking the steaks.
Love it, Kendall.
Jude's figured out he needs to hold the marshmallow over the coals, but he's still learning about "being patient". He was done cooking his marshmallows after a few seconds--long enough to get it warm.
Ah! It's a Lance!
George decided Cole needed to taste the Nutella we were using. We haven't really started feeding Cole "real" food yet, but occasionally give him tastes.
"Oh my goodness! There's something sticky in my mouth! What is this?"
"Hm. It is pretty good..."
"Where can I get more of that?"
Jude likes to be close to Cole at all times...
Maybe a little too close. Cole is a very good sport about it and usually takes it all in stride.
I'm glad we got to see the Petersons again. Tracy and her husband Dave are moving to do a Anesthesia Fellowship in Washington. :(
We sure are going to miss them!
While the adults chit-chatted, the kids found all kinds of things to keep themselves entertained.
Digging in the dirt and making mud.
Once it got a little bit darker, we could see tons of fireflies. We spent the good part of an hour chasing them.
Jude loved trying to catch them.
Lance wanted me to take his picture of him pretending to be the Hulk. Love that mud?
It was a perfect end to Father's Day.
I love you, George Glass. Thank you for being such a good dad to our children. You are kind and patient, but also fun and crazy! I'm so glad we get to raise our children together. I am a better mom and a better person with you by my side. I can't wait to see what the future holds for our family!
