July 23rd--day four!
Man, did we pack in a ton of stuff this day! We were originally planning on heading home this day, but we were having so much fun we decided to extend one extra day. Worth it!
George and I cooked breakfast that morning: crepes with all the fixings! So good.
And of course we had to spend at least five hours at the beach. :)
George and Lance started immediately digging a hole. I'm not sure what our fascination is with digging at the beach. We're not building sand castles or even "making" anything really. Just digging holes.
Jude LOVED the waves! They crashed right on shore and were pretty rough, but it didn't seem to deter him and he spent the majority of every day at the beach jumping and running in and out of the crashing surf.
Cole was loving it too. He was getting better about missing his afternoon nap on these beach days and spent the whole time totally happy.
He would yell when the waves hit him. "Oh!" "Woah!"
It was breezy this day, so George got out the kite and all the kids took turns flying it.
Still working hard on that hole.
I'm not sure if Lance ever left the water except to eat and drink. He is a fish, this one!
Our hole kept getting bigger and bigger...
Happy scream!
George helped Jude learn how to boogie board.
He was pretty scared...
...but he managed to ride a wave all the way in! Of course he got destroyed on the next one and the lesson was over.
Okay, that hole is HUGE!
They dug the hole so deep, it was over Alex's head--almost 5 feet deep. So deep, in fact, the lifeguard drove over and told us we probably needed to fill it in so it would collapse and kill people. Oops.
Not too please that the hole was now 2 feet deep instead of 5.
Before we left the beach, we had to get some cousin shots in.

It had been a GREAT day at the beach. We packed up around 4 so we would shower and make it to dinner.
Pack mule. :)
We had dinner at one of George's favorite places: Owens! This was the third time I've been there and it never disappoints.

And it wouldn't be a true OBX trip without Pirate Mini Golf. The boys seriously asked every single day we were there if we could go miniature golfing.
Cole thought he had the game all figured out. He refused to stay in the stroller and tried so hard to play like the big kids.
Po and Emerson
Basically the game was a wash for me--I spent my time chasing Cole around, pretending to play and watching the boys have a great time.
Cole threw his ball down the hill for this one.
Cole and Uncle Po.
Lance stepped in as a good big brother and helped Jude look through the hole. :)
It was a wonderful, fabulous day. Needless to say, we were totally, 100% exhausted and slept the sleep of the dead that night. Even Cole decided to sleep in until around 8 the next morning. Awesome.
