Happy Easter!

This year our Easter Bunny came on Saturday since we were going to spend the weekend with Grandparents up in Northern VA. Lance was spending the weekend with his dad and Abbey.

This is the first year Cole really knew enough to appreciate the goodies in his basket:

Gum eggs! Yes!

He was loving his Ninja Turtle blanket, too.

Jude is obsessed with Lance's Lego "Avengers" game and plays it almost everyday so he was especially excited about the Lego Movie game he got in his basket:

Lily was just pleased to be part of the action. :)

Lance had a baseball game that morning that we missed (Scott and Abbey took him and cheered him on) because we were scheduled to clean our church building. Bummer. After we finished, we drove up to Ashburn and spent the afternoon with Grandmom and Pop Pop before heading over to my Mom's house that evening for an Easter egg hunt with Grant and Mason!

We had about 60 eggs that we hid in Grandma's backyard for the boys to find:

It was hysterical watching the boys try to find the eggs, often overlooking ones in plain sight.

After the hunt, we attempted a group shot (sad Lance was missing). Key word here is attempt.

We told the boys to yell "Eggs!" and "Easter!" and "Candy!" to try and get them to smile. Lily wasn't a fan:

So we took the babies away and tried with just the three boys:

At least they were having fun. :)

Easter Sunday we spent having an amazing breakfast of crepes with my mom, Glenn, Amy, and Laura and her family. Then it was off to Church and then dinner with George's family, only to turn around and drive back to Charlottesville that night to pick up Lance and make it home in time for bed since there was school the next day. Talk about a whirlwind of a weekend! Happy Easter!

Easter Eggs

As is tradition, it wouldn't be Easter without some dyed eggs. A couple days before Easter we broke out the dyes, waited for George to get home from work and then let the kids loose. It's always an adventure when we mix the boys with things like dye and paint...

(Yes, Cole does have a rash all over his body--nothing to worry about, just hives from a virus.)

Cole didn't quite get the idea that you need to take out the first egg before putting in another one. He would get very upset if I tried. :)

Lily wasn't too sure what was going on.

Happy 70th Birthday, Dad!

Dad turned 70 this year! Since this was a special year, Jen and Eric came up with a great gift we could all give him. It was a surprise (not even Mom knew about it) and I wanted the cake to be themed appropriately, so I had to make it at my Mom's house so it wouldn't give the surprise away. As soon as it was finished on Sunday, I brought it over and we celebrated!

Any ideas what we got him for his Birthday?

He said he just thought it was a pretty cake and didn't know it was a clue, but I'm not sure I believe him.

It was very sweet when he opened the gift. At first he wasn't sure what it was, but as it dawned on him, we all got emotional.

He's been wanting to visit Yellowstone Park for years and he and Mom were planning on taking a trip soon, so Jen and Eric found a great deal for a five-day getaway to Yellowstone for the two of them for this summer! 

Dad was surprised and couldn't keep back the tears. :) I'm so glad Jen had this idea and we were able to do it for him. Now all they need is a nice camera!

Cutting the cake:

So the cake was supposed to be Yellowstone. I got a picture of a Yellowstone landscape and used frozen buttercream transfers to do the scenery. I think it turned out pretty well!

The animals were just fondant I rolled out and cut with cookie cutters.

And it wouldn't be a Glass celebration without food! George manned the grill.

Happy happy Birthday, Dad! You are one of the best people I know and deserve the very best. Thanks for being such a wonderful father to me and George and an amazing Grandpa to the kids. We love you!
