Happy Birthday Grandma!

The last week of September was a busy one! We were getting ready for Lance's baptism on the 28th and George was working nights. I hate when he works nights.

My grandma flew in earlier that week so she could see Lance be baptized, but since she and my mom would only be in Charlottesville for a few hours on the 28th, I pulled Lance out of school one day and the boys and I drove up to Ashburn to visit her.

It was so fun! Laura was there with her two boys which made my boys very happy. :)
These lucky boys got to take a bath in my mom's huge tub.

Cole thought Grant was pretty neat and kept pointing at him and saying "baby? baby?" It was sweet.

Our visit was luckily just one day after Grandma's birthday so we celebrated in style with pineapple cheesecake (Grandma's request).

Such a pretty lady!

Mason helped her blow out the candles.

Mason's Birthday was on the same day (although they celebrated later that week) and Aunt Amy brought him the best gift a three-year-old could ask for: bubble wrap!

Yep, she got him a huge box of bubble wrap which the boys quickly discovered and enjoyed.

Aunt Amy is the best!

Even though we were only in town for about 24 hours, it was great to spend that time with Grandma and my mom! Then it was back down to Charlottesville to see George and finish the prep for the baptism that Saturday.

Lance's 8th Birthday Party!

For Lance's Birthday party this year, we kept it small and simple. Lance finished a sculpting class a week before school started and LOVED it, so when I asked him if he wanted to do his party at City Clay, he was so excited. We invited his favorite people: Killian and Kendall and Callie and Bryce.

It was perfect! I was nervous it would be boring for the kids since it was a two-hour class, but they all enjoyed it--so much so that they turned down snacks and candy to keep working! Success!

The teacher was great and very engaging.

Scott and Abby had just finished a triathlon that morning!

The kids were all sculpting animals, so the teacher explained different ways to do shapes, fur, etc.

Bryce picked a gorilla and enlisted his dad to help him.

Lance chose a dog, of course!

The studio had a cute visitor while we were there.

Melissa and Jen:

Lance was cracking up at the eyes he gave his dog. They were pretty funny. :)

Callie putting the finishing touches on her German Shepherd.

Finished sculpting!
Bryce did a gorilla.

Callie's was a German Shepherd.

Kendall did a Boxer.

Lance did a dog and a boat.

And Killian worked hard on his pot!

These pieces will be fired and glazed at a later date. I can't wait to see the finished products!

After the sculpting, we went back to our house to have cake, but not before Lance got to try out his first gift from his dad: a road bike!

It is really cool. Lance couldn't wait until we got home and took it for a spin around the parking lot.

At home, Lance had to show his friends and family his new pet: Molty.

The kids all thought he was neat and Lance was thrilled to show him off.

Cake time! Since we were doing "artsy" things, I put some white chocolate paint pallets on top of the cupcakes. They ended up looking pretty cute, if I do say so myself.

I let Lance light his own candles which was a little scary, but he did a good job. No fire accidents and no burned carpet.

Gift time!
George and I got him a pocket knife since he is starting scouts. I think we need to go over some safety rules before he can use it by himself.

Thanks, Abby! Lance was having a hard time figuring out how to close it.

Minecraft! WooHoo! Lance has been watching videos and tutorials on YouTube about Minecraft and has been begging for the game for months.

Wallet and money!

Someone was enjoying his chocolate cupcake...

Me doing what I do best.

Jayden! He was the one who watched Jude and Cole while I took Lance to the party. George had to work (like always) and was sad to miss the festivities.

Right before everyone had to go, we tried to feed Molty a mouse, but I think he was traumatized by all the noise and people. He wouldn't touch the mouse, so we put him away and fed him later. Poor guy.

It was a fun party! Happy Birthday, Lance! We sure love you in all your spunky glory. Can't wait to celebrate again in a couple weeks when you're baptized!
