Florida Day 2--lizards and rainbows

After an all-too-short night, we woke up at Grandma's house to her amazing biscuits and gravy. No one makes it like Grandma.

We spent the morning relaxing at Grandma's while we waited for a chance to check into the beach-side condo later that day.

No gravy for these plebeians. Stinkers settled for some cereal.

Learning the ropes from the best:

After breakfast, we spent some time outside trying to catch lizards. I remember doing this as a kid and it brought back so many fun memories of summers past.

Lance was the lizard-catching champion.

Jude taking a turn holding the lizard.

Lily wanted a turn too!

Checking out a beautiful yellow and black butterfly:

Grandma's back yard hasn't changed much over the years. The trees are taller and the neighbors are different, but its still almost exactly the yard I remember 25 years ago.

Lily found a rolly polly!

Still on the hunt for lizards.

Cole thought the rolly polly was cute, too.

Later that day, we checked into the condo and unloaded. Grandma came along to help.
Taking a nap with Lexi. I love this amazing woman!

After unloading we ran down to the beach!

Despite the dark clouds in the sky, it was perfect weather! The water was cool, the sand perfect. We were in heaven!

Thank goodness for Aunt Amy! I could not have done this without her!

Lily loved the waves and wasn't afraid of the water at all. She is a fearless, tiny thing.

Lance and Jude spent most of their time out in the deeper water trying to catch waves.

Waiting...

Rainbow!

Lexi loved the sound of the water and the soft breeze. She happily hung out on the beach while we played. (And don't worry, it was late in the evening, so she wasn't getting burned by the sun.)

It was a perfect day!

Florida Day 1--a long, long drive

August finally rolled around and it was time for Florida!

George would fly out to meet us later in the week, staying home to work and oversee this project:
When we moved in, our house was covered in masonite siding (basically glorified plywood). Its a composite material that works well unless it gets wet, then it swells and turns into sawdust. We were getting holes in our siding at the nail pops and along the edges, so we decided to replace it with vinyl siding. I can't wait to see it when it's all done! We are getting new windows as well which will hopefully mean better utility bills and less rogue stink bugs.

Getting ready to travel. I was nervous to travel with this peanut, but she took the trip in stride and was amazing.

The kids and I DROVE the 12 hours to New Smyrna Beach! Since George was working and couldn't come, Amy volunteered to drive with me to help with the kids and switch off. She was a life-saver!

August 4th--Ready to go!

Grabbing some lunch at Chick-Fil-A along the way. The kids were all doing a wonderful job and kept themselves entertained with tablets, movies, coloring, playdoh and puzzles.

My amazing co-pilot. She was great with the kids, constantly turning around to get them snacks or pass out the next activity. I could not have done this without her!

We had to stop every 3 hours to feed this one, but it worked out perfectly. The kids were able to stretch, use the bathroom, get a snack, and we were off again!

Hanging out while I fed Lexi. Bubble gum is the best!

Attempting to blow a bubble...

Dinner at a Cracker Barrel and then it was onto our last 3-hour leg of the trip.

We finally made it around 1:30 a.m. Grandma of course was waiting up for us, as was Aunt Linda. Can't wait to get this party started!
Grandma Rachel and her namesake Alexa Rae.
