To celebrate his Birthday, here are 27 things you might not know about George--one for each year.
1. He plays the saxophone. Not just the alto sax, the one everyone thinks of when you say "saxophone". He plays the beri. You know, the huge one that's about 4 feet tall. Not only does he play it, he "marched" it in Marching Band. If any of you have ever done marching band, you know that this is a feat.

2. He likes to listen to Ska. The Mighty Mighty Bostones is his favorite ska band. I have to admit, I've started to like ska as well.
3. As a senior in High School, George won the Virginia State Debate competition and got to compete on a national level in New York. Never get in an argument with him. He will win.

4. He has a black belt in karate.

6. George has a love-affair with the Beatles and owns every single song they have ever recorded. We even went to Paul McCartney's concert in D.C. together last August.
7. He played lacrosse in High School for three years, which is what got me interested in lax and I subsequently played the last two years of HS, as soon as they set up a girl's team. We were playing it here in VA before it was cool!

8. He likes to cook. And he CAN cook. Good things, like lamb and creme brulee. Lucky me!

9. If he could, he would sleep in until 11 a.m. and stay up until 2 or 3 a.m. He hates the morning and is a total night owl (although I think med school may be grinding that out of him).

10. George is great at video games and can often beat an entire game in one day. A blessing and a curse, I suppose.
11. He is fantastic with kids. They seem to gravitate toward him. Maybe it's because he's always smiling and will get down with the kids and just be silly and play. Our boys love it!
12. We were each other's first kiss. We were both 16 years old, had been "dating" for a couple years, and finally at our Junior Homecoming dance he asked if he could kiss me.
1999 Homecoming
13. He served a 2-year mission when he was 20 years old for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He lived in California for those two years with each and every day dedicated to sharing the Gospel.

15. One of his favorite places to be is at the beach.
1997 (?)
16. He is always very patient. I'm so grateful for this because I'm not particularly patient and he helps bring me down when I get frustrated.
17. He's a GREAT dad. He's fun, loving, kind, and silly--everything a father should be! I'm so glad I get to co-parent with him.
18. The only professional sport George really follows is baseball, and he isn't really fanatical about that one, either.
19. He lived in only two houses his whole life until he went to college. One in Maryland until he was about 5 when he and his family moved to the house where his parents still live in Virginia. Maybe that's just weird to me because I moved multiple times as a child and never spent more than three years in one place until we moved to Ashburn when I was 13. I think it was my 7th or 8th house I lived in.
20. He attended the University of Virginia for his undergrad and graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Biomedical Engineering. He is now attending the University of Virginia for Medical School.
2000
What? BYU? Oh yeah... we went to a UVA vs. BYU game and had to drag George back to the cheering side for BYU. Guess what? BYU spanked UVA! Ha!
21. His favorite kind of cake is red velevet.
22. He would rather have a second helping of a tasty dinner than save room for dessert. He's savory more than sweet--at least when it comes to food.
23. He spent hours and hour compiling a CD for me for Valentine's Day our Senior year of HS. I still have it and listen to it all the time, along with two others he made for me in subsequent years. They are some of my most prized possessions.

24. About two weeks after he got home from his mission, George got pulled over going 99 miles an hour in his new Honda s2000. He went to court, lost his case, and had to spend 72 hours in a cell filled to the brim with other troublemakers and lost his license for 6 months. Not his most shining moment. We still disagree about the appropriateness of the punishment.
25. He is nice to everyone he meets.
2004 On the mission
26. It has taken me years to convince him that the proper pronunciation for a U-turn is a "you-ee", not "you-be". Yeah, I don't know how he got that idea, either. And it really has taken me years to convince him otherwise.
27. He is my best friend and the love of my life.

Happy Birthday, Love. I am so lucky to have you in my life and by my side. Thank you for all you do for our family and for me. The boys and I absolutely adore you. Thank you for making my life so much fun and for giving me something to smile about, even on the hard days. I cannot imagine my life without you.
Hey I made it into your blog! I feel so special.
ReplyDeleteI think it's funny that you used the words "each and every day dedicated to sharing the Gospel" when you only have one picture of him actually in shirt and tie, so I want a little more proof. Well, you have two but one of them is in front of the MTC and that doesn't count.
George and I always said that we weren't the greatest missionaries (we weren't horrible either), but we were really good at teaching. Okay, he was really good at teaching, I was just grasping at his coattails for more than a quarter of his mission.
Happy Birthday George!
To be fair, there's a third. It just also happens to contain a flaming bowl of cheerios.
ReplyDeleteYeah, fair enough. This wasn't part of the afore mentioned criteria, but I don't remember you wearing pants in that picture. I am pretty sure you just put on the top of the suit to make it a better picture.
ReplyDeleteI eat hell for breakfast.
high school george! hilarious!!
