Halloween on the Lawn

Okay, you'll have to excuse the massive picture dump, but Halloween is just too fun to skip over.

This year, as in most years past, we took the kids to trick or treat on The Lawn at UVa. George was working, so I picked the kids up from school and drove straight to the parking lot next to the lawn and spent the next 45 minutes getting everyone ready in their costumes while we waited for George to meet us. Once we got to the lawn, we waited in line to start the trick or treating. Waiting in lines isn't our most favorite thing to do, but when you're waiting in front of the Rotunda, it isn't so bad.

Our attempt at a family picture.

Yeah, the kids weren't having it.

Lexi was a little Grandma and George went as a punk rocker.

Lance in his Lucario costume. All things considered, it turned out pretty well. (I didn't go to bed last night while I tried to finish the body of this costume.)

The kids managed to find things to keep them occupied while we waited for the trick or treating to start.

Our ninja turtle:

And our butterfly!

I thought Jude made a great Harry Potter. I loved those glasses!

Still waiting... I'm glad these boys are friends.

I went as a roller derby girl.

Almost time!

And... we're moving!

Every door along both sides of the Lawn were staffed with students that were sponsored by various clubs and organizations. The kids always make out like bandits.

Lily's poor wings kept getting bent in the crowds.

Taking a break.

What do you do when your 4 month old needs to eat? You sit down and feed her.

The kids decided to keep me company.

Here's an idea of how crowded it quickly became. This event gets more popular ever year.

On our way back to the car, we stopped at this church on campus to take a few extra pictures of the kids.

It make a fantastic backdrop for Harry Potter.

Can you tell the kids were already tired?

Lexi is just the happiest baby! Thanks, Lance, for all your help with her. You are a great big brother!

Here is the character Lance went as:

While it's not perfect, I think I did alright for this being only my second attempt at making a foam head and sewing the whole costume.

Lance was happy with it, which was more than enough for me.

We made it home just in time for George to take Lance and Jude out in our neighborhood. Cole and Lily decided they were finished and stayed at home to eat dinner and help me pass out candy.

The cutest little helper:

This was our first time ever passing out candy in our neighborhood and we were not prepared! I had no idea that families drove in from out of town to trick or treat and since we're located just off the highway and have very little traffic, it's an ideal place to bring their kids. We know better now and will be better prepared next year!

Happy Halloween!
